What We Do: Interpretive Writing

We look at text as one component of the interpretive experience. It must work with illustrations, video, artifacts, and most importantly with the real thing that is being interpreted.

We tend to use plenty of first-person characterization, sensory references, inquiry, activities and behaviour modeling as well as solid themes and other elements of good practice in our interpretive writing.

Writing must support the overall visitor experience by:

provoking activity, discovery, thought, conversations and questions

relating information, ideas and stories in language that is suitable and relevant to target participants

revealing hidden meanings, new interpretations and interrelationships

enhancing rather than interrupting the visitor’s experience

inspiring visitors to explore and encounter the site and to deepen their connections

Our best writing results from being involved in the planning and research stages of projects.

We integrate new interpretation products with existing and future products whenever possible for maximum overall impact.
