Interpretive Strategic Plans

DavidThompsonCorridorMap

Our interpretive plan for the David Thompson Corridor included district-wide information and planning, plus specific plans for major sites (top row) and minor sites (bottom row).

A district interpretive plan consists of two elements. One section includes information, strategies and coordinated planning that are relevant to interpretation services throughout the district. The second section focuses on planning for individual sites.

District-wide section

The composition of this section depends greatly on your district and agency. It usually includes inventory and analysis of features and resources of district-wide importance such as:

  • foundations (vision, mission, goals and objectives) that direct and guide the delivery of interpretive services
  • visitors and markets
  • natural and cultural features
  • interpretive methods and media

This section will also include standardized tools and procedures for planning, evaluating and supporting interpretation and education programming for use across the district.

Site-focused section

For each important site within the district we provide a detailed site interpretive plan. For details of this process see Components of a site Interpretive Plan.
